Salamajärvi National Park is like a piece of Lapland transferred to Southern Finland. The large, uninhabited area is especially known for its diverse mire ecosystems and its set of wilderness animals. A five day nature experience with accommodation at Koirasalmi Nature Information Hut.
DAY 1
Arrival at Koirasalmi Nature Information Hut.
Introduction to the area and to the GPS device. Optional activities at leisure time: walking the nature trail round Lake Pieni Koirajärvi (2 km), rental of row boats and fishing equipment.
DAY 2
Hiking to Ahvenlampi and to Pyydyskoski and back to Koirasalmi through forests and mires in their natural state.
DAY 3
Exploring Koirajoki old-growth forest area which was established in the beginning of the 20th century. Hiking to Koirasalmi.
DAY 4
Exploring the area around Sysilampi lumber hut. Hiking to observation tower at Heikinjärvenneva Mire. Hiking along the shores of Lake Heikinjärvi to Koirasalmi. Lake Heikinjärvi there is one of the most impressive scree stone fields of the National Park. The mire sections have duckboards and on the heaths the trail is a rocky footpath.
DAY 5
Exploring Salamaperä Strict Nature Reserve which has been protected since 1938. Optional activities: fishing or canoeing. Equipment rental at Nature Hut.
Accommodation, well equipped kitchen, sauna, kiosk-café, fishing permits, rental of canoes, kayaks and rowing boats.
